Cotton Pickin' Kids Perform Bluegrass 'Rainbow Connection' Cover

“Rainbow Connection” as performed by Kermit the Frog is a dearly loved song, but when these Cotton Pickin’ Kids perform their bluegrass “Rainbow Connection” cover, they, too, are making very memorable music.

Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher wrote the music and lyrics of “Rainbow Connection,” which was sung by Kermit (a.k.a. Jim Henson) in the 1979 motion picture, The Muppet Movie. The song was widely popular and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

It’s impossible to think about “Rainbow Connection” without recalling the cast of crazy characters that Kermit the Frog met on his journey to Hollywood, and The Muppet Movie would not have been the classic it is without Kermit’s anthem and its heart-warming words and sweet melody.

However, we think Kermit might have some competition in the Cotton Pickin’ Kids from Cullman, Alabama. Playing a variety of different stringed instruments, the five oldest of the Cipollari kids together create heavenly harmonies.

Savio (mandolin), Therese (bass), Cecilia (guitar), Rosalinda (fiddle), and Gianluca (banjo) stand and play on a porch of a log cabin. They graciously allow one another to approach the microphone as needed, smile unassumingly, and appear to be unbothered by a couple of large flying insects buzzing about.

While their talent is unmistakable, their spirits get our attention as well. The Cipollari crew seem happy and supportive of one another, and, at the end of the video, they humbly share a bit about themselves with viewers by playing a game of superlatives. These five have younger siblings that also play and perform.

On the outside wall of the log cabin, we see a sign hanging behind Cecilia. It reads “Cotton Pickin Blessed.” We believe the Cipollari family is indeed blessed! We know we are blessed by their gifts of talent and their example of a family working happily together.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,” Hebrews 10:24
