'Parable Of The River' David Phelps Live Performance

Watch David Phelps’ live performance of “Parable of the River.” You’ll want to get out of your seat and throw your hands up in worship!

David Phelps got his start in the Christian music world by singing in the Gaither Vocal Band. His ‘official’ time with the band initially lasted eight years and returned for another seven years in 2010. When he wasn’t an ‘official’ member, he joined the Gaither Vocal Band for specials and still performs with them every now and then.

During his 25+ years as a singer, David has released a bunch of solo albums and live-recorded specials. This music video is part of his live-recorded Freedom concert at his family barn in Nashville. I would just LOVE to be in that audience!

The original version of ‘Parable of the River’ came out in 1989 from the band First Call. The lyrics beautifully describe finding God’s Kingdom even when you lose your way.

My soul longs to flow
With the tiniest brook;
I'll give my life to receive
My place in the river

David’s cover of the song is so uplifting and inspiring. There’s no way to listen to him sing it without feeling the strength of God’s love and protection. I wanted to stand up and sing along with the gospel choir.

It’s incredible how the background choir makes the performance a thousand times more powerful. The video really makes you feel like you’re sitting in a room with faithful followers of God that live for Him.

I can only partially describe this effect with words so you’ll just have to watch it to really experience the feeling!

He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:3
