McKinney first gained national recognition in 2001, when as a Wayne County Deputy Sheriff (metro Detroit), he was invited to perform “A Call to Courage” in front of 18,000 people at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Candlelight ceremony in Washington D.C.
