'Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)' Chris Tomlin Live At Grand Ole Opry

Millions had the privilege to hear, ‘Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)’ performed by Chris Tomlin live at the Grand Ole Opry. Fortunately, they recorded it so we all can enjoy it!

There’s a reason why the song Amazing Grace is such a popular, well-known song. It is a song that provides hope, comfort, and grace to so many people. Whether they’re hearing it for the first time and they know every note by heart, the song reminds us that we are free, healed, and loved because Jesus loves us.

Chris wowed the audience with his deeply felt emotions working their way into his voice. They were moved as these beautiful, precious, and heartfelt words rang out across the stage.

The Opry show kicked off with Russell Dickerson performing one of his latest releases “Home Sweet” followed by his smash-hit and current No.1 single “Love You Like I Used To,” two more tracks from his new album Southern Symphony. Then, Chris followed with a new Christmas song “Miracle Of Love,” written about the new baby girl his family is expecting in mid-December. Then the moment no one was expecting, a gospel song on live television. How the world needed to hear it, am I right?

The song isn’t just about theology. It’s about a man, John Newton who experienced God’s radical love and grace when he turned from a deeply immoral lifestyle as a slave owner and seller. John’s moment of “Amazing Grace,” came in the middle of a storm ravaging the boat he was in.

As John held on in that storm, the sails became ripped and tattered, and even one of the sides of the ship had been torn away. He had very little hope of surviving. When John became too tired to help his fellow sailors pump water out of the ship, he was tied to the helm to help him hold on. He also tried to hold the ship on its course. During these rough, torrential moments, he began to realize just how real God truly is. On that day, he was saved from his life and possible death in those rough seas.

The song captured John’s comfort, hope, grace, and radical peace the hour John first believed as it has for many to come. And Chris had the privilege to offer this same comfort on live television. Be prepared to be filled with hope as you praise God through the melody!

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
