'Ave Maria' Performance From Andrea Bocelli

'Ave Maria' Performance From Andrea Bocelli

Alongside the violin accompaniment of Anastasia Petryshak, Italian opera singer, Andrea Bocelli, is proud to release his fifth single, a cover of ‘Ave Maria,’ for his newly released album, ‘Believe.’

Andrea Bocelli has performed before with his children. A performance with his son, Matteo, went viral when they sang ‘Fall on Me’ together. This time, Andrea’s video features his 8-year-old daughter, Virginia.

The video opens with a sweeping shot of Italy as Virginia Bocelli leads her father, who has been blind since he was a child, across the courtyard and into a cathedral. Andrea reverently prays and runs his fingers across the beautiful cathedral as he soaks in its beauty. Then, he beautifully sings ‘Ave Maria,’ and it takes your breath away.

Originally composed in April of 1825 by famous Austrian composer, Frank Schubert, ‘Ave Maria’ has stood the test of time for religious art, being one of the most famous Christian songs for centuries since its release. Although the original song was composed in German, the phrase ‘Ave Maria’ is actually the Latin name for the prayer ‘Hail Mary.’ Translated into English, the lyrics are as followed:

Ave Maria! maiden mild!
Listen to a maiden's prayer!
Thou canst hear though from the wild;
Thou canst save amid despair.

Inspired by both the spiritual journey of his adult life, as well as the powerful memories of playing religious music on the organ for rural churchgoers in his youth, Bocelli composed this inspired arrangement of ‘Ave Maria’ in March of 2020. In a statement on his musical career, Bocelli shared, “I don’t consider myself to be a composer, however, I am a musician, and sometimes melodies come to my mind, with essentially complete harmonies... Music that knocks on the door of my soul and which I gladly welcome and then set free by putting pen to
Paper.”

Not only does this video transport you to another part of the world in a time when travel isn’t possible, his soulful voice also lifts your spirit.

“And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” Luke 1:35
