Dolly Parton Brings Late Night Host To Tears With Touching Song

Dolly Parton brings late night talk show host Steven Colbert to tears with a touching song.

Dolly Parton is a beloved Christian, gospel and country musician. The star has a fan-base that spans generations thanks to her albums, award nominations and collaborations with other popular artists. She’s also known for speaking her mind, calling it like it is, and cracking people up in the process, which makes her a much sought-after and popular guest for any talk show.

She recently appeared on the Colbert Report with Steven Colbert. Steven is an American comedian who began hosting his late night TV show in 2015 after impressing audiences on The Daily Show.

The Colbert Report is known for his jokes and cutting coverage about current event news from politics to celebrities. In this clip from the show, Dolly is there to promote a book she had written called Songteller, where she described the events that happened in her life that led to those songs being written, as well as what the songs are about.

Dolly is a wonderful singer, but her favorite thing to do is to tell stories, and she is able to do that through her music. Dolly shared that when she is in her songwriting process--that is her time to be alone with God, and it is her own form of therapy.

Dolly went on to discuss her mother and their relationship together with singing. “I remember Momma used to sing all those old songs brought over from the old world, and Momma was a good singer too. She would just sing a cappella all the time.”

“So many of those songs were sad, and as I some of them were just plum pitiful. There was a song she used to sing called, Bury Me Beneath The Willow,” Dolly said.

She went on to share the meaning behind the old fashioned song as well as sing it. The song, Dolly explained, was about a young bride-to-be who was left at the altar and met a tragic fate. She stopped singing so Stephen wouldn’t cry himself to pieces. And Stephen laughed as he mopped tears from himself saying, “Like a lot of Americans, I’m under a lot of stress right now, Dolly!”

Check out the performance that moved Stephen to tears, and prepare to get chills as you listen to this classic song from the legendary Dolly!
