Christian Artist Matt Maher Performs Jazzy Version of 'Jingle Bells'

Christian Singer / Songwriter Matt Maher is known for his moving worship songs such as “Because He Lives.” In Maher’s newest Christmas album “The Advent of Christmas” he grabs hold of many holiday classics that have the nostalgia he is known for including some non-religious pieces such as “Jingle Bells.”

“Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
Over the fields we go
Laughing all the way”

With a jazzy twist harkening back to the 50’s lounge lizard feel, Matt Maher joins with a jazz combo to give us a toe-tapping version of this Christmas classic. Complete with darkened set, retro mic, and classic suit and tie, these gentlemen easily recreate the fun of holidays gone by.

“Bells on bobtails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight”

As the chorus picks up, a jazz violinist joins in the song adding more layers to this creative, swing “Jingle Bells!” Even the band joins in the singing of the chorus and even an unseen banjo joins in the merriment.

“Jingle bells
Jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh!”

It’s one of our favorite songs to belt out this time of year! It’s always fun to see a musician getting to enjoy themselves in a musical style that isn’t their usual genre. This song let’s Matt’s personality shine through and we couldn’t help but smile all the way through the song.
