I'm 33 years old - until Sept 16/10.
I have been married since June 2000 to William, who I met in a theology class during our undergraduate years in 1996. We both majored in studying religion.
We have proud parents to four beautiful girls. Our oldest, Julia, was born March 15, 2001. Our "honeymoon" baby. She enjoys drawing, plays on a basketball team and is in a dance club. She is a tall and thin child with beautiful brown hair and big blue eyes.
Katie, our second born, came two years less two weeks later on March 1, 2003 - and shares her birthday with my godson who was born two weeks before Julia, to my cousin who is four months older than me. Katie is a very bright, active child. She is exceptionally smart. She enjoys a karate class and likes to learn new languages.
Carly Rose, our third daughter, came into the world about five weeks earlier than we expectedon Nov. 10/04. Born with a series of medical conditions (some of which were life threatening) she is our little angel on Earth. She has overcome many obstacles all thanks to the glory of God. Carly is a fun, loving child who enjoys playing with dolls, adores Caillou (cartoon) and likes to play outside.
Amy-Leigh is our youngest, born January 26th, 2008. As we approach her second birthday we've seen some very obvious personality traits develop. She is willful and loves giving hugs and kisses, loves toys that involve sorting objects and shapes. She loves to have her hair - what little hair she has! - combed and played with.
We have an extended family household with my mother and grandmother living in the basement apt. of our house. I grew up with my maternal grandparents also. My mentor and best friend in my childhood was my grandfather, Earl. He was permanently disabled in 1979 after a stroke during open heart surgery. He went home to Jesus in January 1995.
My passion is life has been to learn, learn, learn. I half jokingly tell people my occupation is a lifetime student. From the year I began grade school to the last year of my formal post-secondary education I spent 26 of my 33 years of life in full time studies. I absolutely love school and learning environments.
I am a survivor of childhood abuse and school violence. During fifth grade I became the target of bullying. Through that year and into ninth grade, it escalated to a point of me being diagnosed as clinically depressed with a case of generalized anxiety disorder and school phobia. I was threatened at knife point, pushed down flights of stairs, hit, kicked, etc by girls and boys. Administrators tried to help from time to time. Most did not do anything. But one did more than anyone could ever have asked of her - Pat Frayn, the guidance counselor at my junior high school. Literally, she saved my life. She worked with the school board in my community to arrange me to be able to finish my ninth grade year at home with a tutor. Otherwise, I would have dropped out of school - I simply couldn't go because day after day was just entering into series of painful, damaging situations. I tried very hard to tell the school administration just how badly the bullying was but none listened, except Pat.
One of the most tragic days of my adolescent life was when I received the news of a classmate having passed away after being pushed too hard during an intramural basketball game. The person who pushed my classmate did so intentionally but certainly not with any hope of hurting him that badly. Still, I ached. If only they had listened! I had left the school by this time due to my own bullying experiences and fear for my own life. Since then I have seen more and more stories of school violence everywhere. We must pray for our schools and our children. Parents and community members must participate in peer mediation and programs to teach our children conflict resolution!
R.I.P. Ben. You are remembered, you are in my heart, forever and always.
My faith has evolved, changed and continues to do so daily, weekly, monthly and yearly since I first understood who Jesus is.
I live in eastern Canada in a beautiful province called Nova Scotia. Its a peninsula, surrounded by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. I was born, raised and currently reside here and suspect I always will.
