Israel's defense minister says Iran has pulled back from its goal of a nuclear bomb. According to Reuters, Israel's defense minister Ehud Barak was quoted as saying on Tuesday that Iran has drawn back from its ambitions to build a nuclear weapon but warned that his country may still have to decide next year whether to launch a military strike against it. In an interview with Great Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper, Barak stated that an immediate crisis was avoided when Iran chose to use more than a third of its medium-enriched uranium for civilian purposes earlier this year, and said that the decision "allows contemplating delaying the moment of truth by eight to ten months."

A second major earthquake hits British Columbia. According to United Press International, a second major earthquake in three days struck the remote Pacific coast area of British Columbia with a magnitude of 6.2. There were no reports of injuries or damages in the sparsely populated, rugged area and no tsunami warning was issued. The quake wasn't far from a much larger quake that did trigger tsunami warnings on Saturday night and Sunday.
