When David encountered this situation he ran to God.
What I find encouraging is that often when we sin there are consequences that we must face -and no one in their right mind wants to face the consequence of sin! However in this moment we see that although God has judged us and punishment has been dished out it is better to run to the God who subjected us to the punishment because He will ultimately be the one that will bring us out.
