Conference Committee On Hmong Ministry (CCOHMong) 2008
Report to California Nevada Annual Conference Conference Committee on Hmong Ministry The Conference Committee on Hmong Ministry has nearly completed its first year of ministry in our Annual Conference. Its purpose is to evangelize the Hmong community within the bounds of the Cal/Nev Annual Conference. The committee, made up of representatives from each of the congregations with Hmong ministry, met regularly for visioning, ministry planning, and mutual support and cultural understanding. We are moving forward and are finding strength and encouragement as to work together. Our vision for 2009-2010 includes Discipleship Training, Leadership Development and Training, and Growth in Understanding of what it means to be a United Methodist Christian. We are developing culturally appropriate discipleship materials for use in the local churches. This is a challenging endeavor because there is little material designed for Hmong-speaking United Methodist Christians. Our goal is to create powerful and relevant materials to challenge all in what it means to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. We are also addressing how we might make more Hmong language Bibles available to our congregations, as they are expensive. We would like to see more events in Hmong and English that meet the needs of discipleship training and leadership development in Hmong and English-speaking congregations. We are looking to create or participate in events which will give vision to the young people who may discern a call into ordained ministry and lay leadership. A group of Hmong pastors are meeting in retreat periodically to translate key segments of the United Methodist Discipline dealing with the Local Church into Hmong. This project is progressing very well. This will meet a need in the local churches of our conference as well as those of others Annual Conferences.
