Dying Soldier Sings 'Tell My Father' With His Son
This unbelievably sweet and heartbreaking moment between father and son will bring tears to your eyes. In a special ceremony, a soldier dying from cancer sings the song ‘Tell My Father’ with his son.
“Tell my father that his son didn't run or surrender, that I bore his name with pride
As I tried to remember, you are judged by what you do while passing through
As I rest 'neath fields of green let him lean on your shoulder, tell him how I spent my youth
So the truth could grow older, tell my father, when you can, I died a man”
Lt. Col. Mark Weber, who has served over 23 years in the Army, always knew that death could happen at any time while serving his country. But now, war isn’t what will kill him, it will be his battle with stage four cancer.
In the video, Lt. Col. Mark Weber of the Minnesota National Guard is singing ‘Tell My Father,’ a Civil War era song, with his son, Matthew. Their tear-jerking performance took place at the Minnesota History Center in Saint Paul.
As Mark and Matthew sing in unison, their deep voices fill the room as a piano and violin play beautiful music in the background. A chorus of boys also join them in singing as the song goes on. As the audience looks on, their eyes well up with tears as they witness this dying father and his son share a special moment on stage.
After the song finishes, Mark and Matthew share a big embrace and Mark’s son breaks down in tears. Then the rest of Mark’s family joins him on stage as the audience claps, and the father has trouble holding back his tears.
What a touching moment. The men and women who bravely serve our country will never know the depth of our gratitude, love and respect we hold for them. God bless our troops!
