Egyptian protesters demand an end to ties with Israel. According to Israel National News, dozens of protesters demonstrated outside the residence of Israel's ambassador to Egypt in Cairo, demanding that the government cease all diplomatic relations with the Jewish state in light of the recent attack along the border between Israel, Egypt and the Gaza Strip. While the perpetrators remain unknown, Egypt has blamed Israel for the attack, which killed 17 Egyptian soldiers and injured seven.

Volcano erupts in New Zealand park. According to The Associated Press, a volcano quiet for more than a century erupted in a New Zealand national park, spreading thick ash for several miles, causing some residents to evacuate their homes and some domestic flights to be canceled. Scientists said it was too early to determine whether the latest eruption was the start of a renewed cycle of activity.

Syria and Iran vow to continue fighting. According to The Telegraph, Iran pledged that its "axis" with Syria will "never" be allowed to break as Tehran sought to bolster President Bashar al-Assad by sending a senior envoy to Damascus. Mr. Assad made his first appearance on state television for over a fortnight, promising to continue the struggle against his enemies "without respite". Iran has been trying to guarantee the survival of Assad by supplying Syria's regime with funds, weaponry and expert personnel...
