Wealth N Riches

Wealth N Riches

Psalm 112 - I want to take a moment to explain my position on wealth and success because my thoughts may be a little different than yours. I personally believe that God gives to each of us our material things according to our ability to handle them (Matt. 25:14). Some of us can handle more of it than others. In Psalm 112:3, we are told that "Wealth and riches are in his (the righteous) house. In Isaiah 1:19, we are told that "IF we are willing and obedient, we will eat the good things in the land". In Psalms 1:3, we read that "whatever he (the righteous) does prospers". (HCSB)

It is true that Christ gave up the treasures of heaven, and compared to what he had up there. He gave up everything. However, our heavenly Father still took care of his Son on earth (see Matthew 2:11) by providing Him with an ample supply of gold, frankincense, and myrrh right after his birth. In John 12:4-6, we find that our Lord even carried a money bag around with him, and had assigned Judas to keep up with it. There was so much money that Judas could regularly steal from it, and still no one noticed. In Matthew 27:31, Jesus' clothes were so nice that the soldiers even gambled for them instead of burning them. In John 19:24, John explains that Jesus even wore a top of the line seamless robe, so the solders would have been crazy to burn it. In Philippians 4:12, Paul said that he knew what it was like to be loaded AND broke. He said that he could handle both situations by explaining in Philippians 4:13" I am able to do all things through Christ who strengthens me". (HCSB)

Although it is true that our Lord and at times Paul had money, they BOTH had a heart for the poor. Read Psalm 112:3-5 and notice how God ties riches and helping the poor together. Even in Acts 10:2, Luke notes that the first Gentile believer, Cornelius, was known for his charitable deeds, and thus God honored this man by making him the first Genti
