The Book of Joshua closes and now the Jewish people have no charsmatic leader, therefore, the Book of Judges begins what became known as the "Dark Hours of Jewish History". the people stray from the laws of Moses and become the oppressed of neighboring nations, this causes them to call out to God who send them a deliverer known as a judge. Judges ends the "Formation Period". Ruth is linked to Judges because its in the same time frame and in the midst of this darkness is hope.
