Sarah is another woman of courage who was able to live through difficult times yet emerge as an instrument through which Salvation History was played out.

When Sarah and Abraham married in the city of Ur they were known as Abram and Sarai. They spent most of their lives waiting for a child God had promised them. The child's name would be Isaac, which translates as "laughter," since both of them laughed when they heard God's promise because they were well past the child bearing age. Sarah's faith was tested by a husband who was more concerned for himself and a need for an heir than for his wife. Her faith was again tested when she was told that within a year she would give birth to a baby and she was 89 years old.

God has a plan for all of us but when we stumble around on our own trying to find our vocation, our purpose and fail to ask God we fall into the holes on the highway of life. Sarah and Abraham fell in these holes out of impatience and it took years of hurt to crawl out of them.
