Big Idea: Replace Rules with a relationship!

Mark 10:17-29

THREE FALSE BELIEFS OF THE RICH YOUNG RULER:

FALSE Belief #1: What I have done is ENOUGH to have a right relationship with God.

It looked like the rich young ruler had all he needed:

He was rich,

He was young,

He was a ruler

He was HUMBLE

He was spiritually SENSITIVE



FALSE Belief #2: If what I have is not enough, I can do MORE to earn my way into heaven. (Isaiah 64:6 , Ephesians 2:8-10)



"But now God has shown us a different way of being right in His sight - not by obeying the law, but by the way promised in the Scriptures long ago. We are made right in God's sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved the same way, no matter who we are or what we have done."

Romans 3:21, 22 (NLT)



FALSE Belief #3: I can trust Jesus with PART of my life and still be completely RIGHT with God.



"The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him." 2 Chronicles 16:9 (NLT)



It all comes down to a battle of wills:



What I want vs. what does GOD want?



How do you know if you have surrendered everything to Jesus Christ?



Jesus said, "mark My words, no one who sacrifices house, brothers, sisters, mother, father, children, land - whatever - because of Me and the message will lose out" Mark 10:29 (NLT)
