Now we come to a very important part of our second coming studies: the events that occur between the rapture phase and the glorious appearing phase of Christ's return. While we have already talked about the two phases, we have not yet discussed what takes place here on earth between the two phases. To find out, we will have to study our Lord's very definitive Olivet Discourse later. However, the great Old Testament prophets, particularly Daniel and the minor prophets, had much to say about this time period, and the book of Revelation uses 13 chapters to describe it in detail. This period of time is known among prophecy students as the Tribulation.

Anyone who takes the Bible literally must accept the fact that it teaches there is a time of tribulation awaiting the inhabitants of this earth (some Bible translations refer to it as a time of "great distress"). Our Lord said of this time, "For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be."
