Captain Philip Layton has a dual appointment as The Salvation Army corps officer at Hythe in Kent, where he serves alongside his wife, Karen, and as Tutor in New Testament Studies at William Booth College, London.
Phil is a member of the Salvation Army's International Doctrine Council, and a member of its Moral and Social Issues Council in the United Kingdom. His commitment to the wider church is exercised as Chairman of the local Churches Together District Council.
Formerly a Computer Presentations Designer, Phil undertook a variety of challenging and creative tasks, but the majority of his time was spent on corporate web site production, breaking new ground during an era when many companies were uncertain as to the benefits of the internet.
He has vocational qualifications in Management and in Information Technology, while academic studies include a BA (Religious Studies) from the University of Kent and a Master of Theology from Heythrop College, University of London in which he focused on uses and abuses of the Bible, ethics, and the Gospels.
The Laytons have two children; Anastasia and Joshua, and to relax Phil simply enjoys being with his family, playing or watching football, mountain climbing, swimming, or dreaming of a getaway to the Canary Islands!
