I grew up in a traditional "pretending Christian family" in the 1960s. We had a huge family bible, but it was never opened. As I was growing up my father never went to church. His favorite saying was, "you do not have to go to church to be a Christian." My mother took us to church when we were young until we were old enough as teenagers to find reasons not to go. Her going to church was a tradition and social function. Growing up I learned various bible stories but I never learned any of the tenants of the Christian life until I accepted the Lord as my savior at the age of 19 while at college through the leading and mentoring of a roommate. His first name was David but I do not remember his last name. He left at the end of the semester and I never heard from him again. I thank him for being the Lord's servant and hope that he has had a blessed life. At the age of 53, I can say that life has been a journey; seldom easy, often rewarding, seeming to be too long before getting to go to heaven. I was a much more open person until some especially difficult life events 15 years ago. God's grace carried me through them but now I am much more withdrawn and private, often without joy in my life because of some health conditions that has me in chronic pain on a daily basis. Being more private, I seldom consider sharing anything on a site like this. However, if everyone can tolerate my rambling, I am going to use this site to reflect back on where the Lord has taken me through the years. I do not know if my story will be helpful to anyone else, but I do know that many people will have had similar experiences. I appreciate this web site and the Lord's servants that have put it together. Maybe through this site, I will be able to encourage others as I receive encouragement from those that send me notes.
