Like most of the other biology and medical school students, Carl was educated in and committed to an evolutionary belief system. But when his friend challenged those beliefs, his quest for answers began.

During the next 18 years, Carl became a doctor of medicine and a student of evolution. He pored over books on geology, dinosaurs, and extinction. Although he couldn't quite put his finger on it, something seemed amiss. Eventually he and his wife Debbie decided to interview scientists and photograph fossil dig sites. Carl left with an open mind--he was a scientist after all---but he returned with more questions.

Thanks to supportive friends, family, and his employer, that story is being shared with others through the new book Evolution: The Grand Experiment. Appropriately, Carl has dedicated the book to those who have the courage to question evolution.

As for that college challenge, Carl says that once people read his book it will become "crystal clear as to how I came to my final conclusions about evolution and won (or lost) my bet."

Here are some other reviews:
From Valeri Holmes, Television Host Rejoice: "I think this book ought to be on the coffee table of every single home, not just in America, but around the world. It is about evolution. He refutes evolution in a powerful way."

From Amazon.com: "Being very succinct: this is one of the best books I have ever bought, period."

From Evidencepress.com: "This book left me in awe. Its material is so powerful I expect it to become a best seller at least among Christians."

From Tom DeRosa, founder of creationstudies.org: "One of the best creation books I have seen in my 20 years with CSI is now available. Written by Dr. Carl Werner, Evolution: The Grand Experiment, is a powerful, new resource...and is a "must" for every Christian family.

From DoesGodExist.org: "It is the best teaching material on creationism we have seen. It is based on evidence, it challenges the student to think, and the quality of the material is superb."

Andreola Review from Christianbook.com: "Homeschoolers are forever searching for educational treasures that honor God while maintaining high academic standards. Evolution: The Grand Experiment is a gem indeed! Dr. Carl Werner presents an unusual mode of study. He interviews leading scientists on both sides of the debate. Eye-popping museum-quality color photos illustrate each point of view with modern and historical data. He lets the student decide which view supports the evidence."

From: Christianbook.com "I loved this book! I am a "regular person", not particularly scientifically inclined, and I found the evidence was presented clearly and concisely. Also, I must say that I am a lover of nicely produced books, and this book--the paper quality, the ink, the heft! It is a fantastic book, and well worth the price."

From Sonlight.com: "My fourteen year-old "devoured" the book almost as soon as we unpacked- disappearing into his room to read it on his own. My 12 year-old and the remaining 9-year old - enjoy having it read to them - the illustrations are excellent- presented in an almost power point fashion - recapping the concepts presented before you progress to the next chapter. This book helped us to finally grasped the inconsistencies with Darwin's Theory of Evolution."

From Amazon.com: "This is a high-quality hardbound volume with hundreds of exquisite color photographs of fossils from around the world. The book's authors were thorough and passionate in their decades-long research of the fossil record. The result is a must-read for anyone with interest in the fossil evidence for evolution."

From Amazon.com: "Evolution: The Grand Experiment is a gem of a book. Unfortunately many books on this subject cover much the same material and contain more then the average number of errors for science books. This work is refreshingly different. It contains several hundred color photos that effectively illustrate the point the author is making. Although the author, a child prodigy who received his 4 year medical degree when he was just 23 (normally students are just starting medical school at around 22), clearly favors the design position, he does a good job of presenting the other side. Most books on this subject present a detailed review of the evidence for creation but, in contrast, this book relies heavily on illustrations, charts, boxed quotes, tables, and limited text. Dr. Werner lets the illustrations etc. present his case, and this they do very well. This large coffee table book is a pleasure to pick up and read select sections at a time that are of interest. He covers in some detail the fossil record, a subject often ignored by creationists in spite of the fact that this area is one of their strongest evidences. The section on whale evolution is excellent, one of the best I have read on this now popular proof of evolution. It was also this section that I read first. The authors wife, gifted in her own area, did most of the photographs, which are not only excellent in photographic quality, but very informative. Even the quotes used photographs of the person being quoted, which helped the quotes to come alive. Many top scientists were quoted on both sides. This book would be a great gift for Christmas or Hanukkah, one that would be read in contrast to the typical creation book which is almost entirely page after page of solid text."

From Timberdoodle.com: "You don't believe in evolution, but you know someone who does. And if you are like us, you never have the right words to refute it. They certainly don't want your God-talk; in fact, evolution has enabled countless fools to believe that there is no God. You're not looking for an argument, but if your evolution devotee is also a beloved friend or family member, you pray that by demolishing this stronghold, God will give you an opportunity to talk about your Creator God. Think of Evolution: The Grand Experiment as an oversized tract, suitable for even the most ardent evolutionist. Or hand it to your inquiring preteen for solid evidence of a misguided dogma that has overspent its era. Better still, read it aloud as a family. With the exception of a few more-complex chapters towards the end of the book, children as young as six will be mesmerized by the outstanding photography that graces nearly every page. They will laugh aloud at the ideas of dirty underwear and wheat spontaneously producing mice. And they will sit in disbelief when they hear of a scientist trying to prove Darwin's theory of disuse by chopping off tails of mice for twenty generations only to find that their offspring still grew tails. Evolution: The Grand Experiment brings together scientists on both sides of the evolution/creation debate to present their findings. At each juncture you will be asked to decide what view the evidence supports. Intended for a general audience, in both public and private schools, Evolution: The Grand Experiment is not a book fighting for Creation; rather, its only design is to point out the flaws of evolution, so this is a book that would be suitable for both Christians and non-Christians alike. Evolution: The Grand Experiment is comprehensive, lavishly-illustrated, super-easy to read, and you just may find that the conclusions are startling."
