I was born and raised in Vancouver, where I live now; but I spent 2 years in university in Montreal (Concordia), 3 years in Regina, just over a year in Prince George and a total of 15 years in Victoria. Most of my life was spent in radio and TV, mainly as a newscaster and talk-show host. In 2000, after dancing around the issue for about a dozen years, I came to the Lord and in 2002, was called to Ministry. Oddly enough, my marriage broke up as I as firming up my walk with Christ -- it's a long story, and rehashing it now would be useless and could put me in the position of de-forgiving someone I've already forgiven. But the closer I drew to God, the more direction He gave me, leading me on an amazing ride through unemployment, under-employment, great blessing in work and Ministry and wondrous revelation. In 2004, the Lord called me to Vancouver's Downtown East Side, which is known as the "worst postal code in Canada", but which is, quite frankly, the "whitest fields" for the harvest! I preached and oversaw one night a week at Rainbow Mission, but then that Work closed down when another group took over the lease and I eventually landed at Gospel Mission (not Union Gospel) (www.gospelmission.net). I'm now Pastor there, responsible for our Saturday night services and also for a unique Ministry -- The Lord's Rain, a project to provide showers for people in the area. A lengthy chronicle of that Ministry can be read on my blogs, http://revdowntown.blogspot.com and http://veryconvenienttruth.blogspot.com.
In 2006, the Lord started revealing some things to me about an issue that has been close to my heart since I was little: the environment. During my days as a talk-show host, I gave a lot of air-time to environmentalists, who at that time were quite marginalized by the media. In 2001, I received the Environmental Journalism Award from the Skies Above Foundation; but since that time -- and as I learned more about the Word of God -- I've become more and more aware of how the environmental "movement" has been co-opted by anti-God -- and anti-Christ -- forces. Pagans and far-left liberals have taken it over, and the obsession that governments and policy-makers now have towards the issue tells me that there is a concerted effort underway to get us to focus on that at the expense of focusing on God. From there was born "A Very Convenient Truth -- real hope in the face of environmental fears". The book is self-published, and while I'd love it if you'd buy a copy (contact me through this site), the main thing is the message and getting it out to people. That's why I'm posting these video chats about the book: so people can look at the issue without angst, and see that (a) there is a way to be free of fear, and (b) here is yet another way that the Word of God applies to everything in our lives: something we can take to our unsaved friends.
A Prayer to Humbly Serve This Maundy Thursday - Your Daily Prayer - March 28
Would you let Jesus wash your feet? Isn't it hard to imagine lifting our dirty toes to the King of Kings? None of us are worthy of his care and attention; yet in Christ's perfect love, he gives us nothing less. Does your human heart struggle like mine to serve others humbly as Jesus did?
