Why the jester? Well, when I started my Catholic based mock video production company in college, I started to think about my life and the role I have chosen. I came to two insights: 1) I have never asked to be in the spotlight, but rather behind the scenes and 2) it is one deeply centered in exploring my faith in very creative experiences. I have put together a book of morning meditations compiled of short stories, which I have written, for high school and young adult retreats. Anyway, I felt the Court Jester, in attitude and conviction was a role I fit into. I soon realized, I am a work in progress and so I could never be a full fledged Jester, but an apprentice. If this be true, then who was my teacher? I quickly concluded Jesus Christ. Now, this is not to say, Jesus is a Fool nor I am, but rather, a Jester, one who makes other's laugh, feel worthy, and encourages, by building up, being humble, and loving unconditionally while always pointing to the King and not himself. The Jester sacrifices all for the King, for he is really the essence of a knight in training...standing by and doing the will of his Lord, honoring his own word and promises without reward, sharing his insight with others in jest or in advice, and being available and senstive to others. He does not convert with force, but lives his beliefs. In all this, he does not seek greatness, but is great.
