Hey John. This is so very true. Many of the "promise" scriptures are used this way. Actually this one is to the Hebrews is "if" they will surrender to Nebuchadnezzar also. The equivalent to surrendering to a mad man from Iran. Open the gates and go with him and then this Jer 29:11. was if you will surrender to Nebuchadnezzar and ... few today really understand what this is really about. Like the "by his stripes we are healed in 1 peter 2 He has already proposed that we are called to suffer etc. earlier in this chapter. Many folks today only read half the verse and completely skip the context of honoring the king and that this verse is actually an evangelizing tool to bring the stray sheep back into the fold.
