Would it have been "judgemental" or "bible-thumping" mfor the fellow on the bank to try and save the one asleep in the canoe, heading to a place he most likely would not choose to if he knew what it held for him?

Yes true, except God is not willing for ANY to perish - and He is the one that pursues people - even down the Waterfall! We can only do so much - he could have yelled out "there's a waterfall ahead!" and the bloke say "what would you know old-timer?" and headed down anyway. But I take the point - we need to act and speak!
