I like it when Tim Hawkins takes off on Chik-Fil-A, people with kids, etc., but honestly I didn't find this funny. It hurt. I guess because the lyrics use God's name and describe Him, but the delivery and antics were not honoring of the One they described. I hope God Tube and Tim Hawkins rethink this one.

Hi Betty -- respectfully, I think you're missing the point. I would submit to you that Tim Hawkins did not degrade a beautiful worship song - but rather upgraded a popular secular song. Just like when reading your Bible - things need to be taking in context. Tim is a "Christian Comedian" - and often what makes something funny is it's absurdity. In this case the idea that someone (worship leader) would take a secular song from Led Zeppelin and insert the words of a popular Christian song/hymn - is indeed absurd and also funny (to me). Keep in mind -- he's not leading worship in this video, he's doing a comedy skit. Betty I appreciate your concern and respect your desire to keep things pure and holy. I don't believe Jesus is offended by this - nor do I think Tim Hawkins is on the path to hell, as some in this thread have suggested.

What was the intended purpose of degrading a beautiful worship song. Should not a Worship song reflect the one you are worshiping? Not the world at large? It comes across as trash, not worship. Just saying.

Betty - Not sure what you are getting at - can you clarify?

  • 2012-11-14T18:42:26

This is true. Just what was that intended for? And IF G-d is the object of the song, should the song not reflect HIM? Not trash talk?

1 Peter says for the time has come for judgement to begin at the house hold of G-d...... if we do not judge ourselves HE will have to judge us. The world is watching. Do you really think they believe we respect our L-RD if we act toward worship in a worse way than they?

I keep hearing that Jesus had a sense of humor, where in G-d's word do you see Jesus making fun of His Father or His word? I haven't found that yet. Please tell me where.

  • 2012-11-14T18:25:45

True, but can't we respect HIM more than we do?

Nova Peter Buchanan amen to that!

I LOVE this! It's so cool! When I got saved I quit listening to music like Zepplin. This is cool how you can still enjoy the music but have it with worship lyrics. I enjoy Tim Hawkins anyway. Smiling and laughing is good for the soul.

I agree that Tim is mocking us and not God. Humor is good medicine, and especially a good laugh at our younger rock in' selves was a fun way to start the day.

Steven and Karin - we are not talking about dancing - or talking about 'having a chuckle'. Of course the angels rejoice - we rejoice - we can laugh - we can enjoy ourselves. Having been following Christ for almost 50 years, the truth of the Bible is embedded in my heart. Those of us who see Tim's performance as offensive are not being judgemental - at least I am not - I am only pointing out that using scripture and screaming it out in such an irreverant way, poking fun at how churches 'do' worship is not acceptable. How is this advancing the Kingdom of God? Tim has gone through his own period of sorrow with his wife's illness - I just wish he would give up the tom-foolery and, with his gifts,I am sure he would be a wonderful teacher/preacher of God's Word. He will always be a 'funny' person - but then there are many preachers who can combine the two very appropriately.

LAST POST DISAPPEARED! Where does it say in Scripture that God has a sense of humour? I am not a "stick in the mud" as some people have hurled in accusation. I OVE worshipping God - teaching music is my profession. I love leading worship. This is not the issue at stake here. Christians 'Christ-ones' - those who have appreciated and accepted the sacrificial, willing death of Jesus Christ at Calvary for our salvation and eternal hope and security. - Christians know that our God is Holy, to be revered and that the fear of aged is the beginning of ALL wisdom. A person does not crack jokes in the presence of SOMEONE one who has just lost a close loved one; silly jokes are out of place on such occasions. In the same way, God is focused on the lost and is looking for those who will care for their souls as He does. That is why our lives (while ABSOLUTELY HAVING MANY TIMES OF FUN AND HUMOUR - no one likes good fun more than me) are to be characterized by “soberness” (seriousness about making our lives count for Christ) (1 Thessalonians 5:6,8; Titus 2:2,6). When we worship God we are not out there to entertain or perform. Those who lead music worship (as worship is NOT all about music!) are there to minister to others and to assist them to praise God. My young son, who was a worship leader, and is now worshipping God around the Throne in Heaven, since going to heaven in 2007 at the age of 25 - said - "When I worship, I am the sacrifice". He loved life, loved people and most of all loved and served Jesus - but when it came to worship, it wasn't a comedy show! Tim Hawkins serves no purpose other than that of a comedian who constantly pokes fun at how various functions should be carried out in church. Of course church is there to be enjoyed. The JOY of The Lord is my strength.BUT. God was not laughing when He sent His Only Son into the world to die for us. The Holy Spirit will convict of sin and save souls - how could the Spirit work in this raucous environment of foolery? What purpose is Hawkins serving other than to elevate himself and entertain people? This will not lead people to Christ. Read Romans 12 v 1 and 2. Be distinct, not detached - BUT remember God has standards and He will not be mocked. Waken up!

This clip of Tim "being funny" is having the desired effect of the enemy - we are being pedantic about things that are not glorifying to God, and while we're doing that we are not focussing on God! How the enemy must be laughing at us!
