The real problem is horrible breeders and puppy mills, not owners. A good breeder will tell you if you ever want to get rid of the dog to bring him back and they will find him a good home. A good breeder will make you sign a contract to have the dog neutered or spayed. Good breeders are passionate about the breed and will only breed show quality dogs and the rest they sell as pets that must be neutered or spayed. Good breeders are hobbyist who do it for the love of the breed and not as a money making enterprise. Breeding dogs should cost money, not make money. The only people allowed to breed dogs should be people who show dogs- not until we have a handle on all these unwanted dogs. And puppy mills should be downright illegal. My bishon was a puppy mill breeder and she is a great dog but it would be a better world if I had to pay 1000 dollars for her after a year on a wait list, and I got her as a puppy so she could be spoiled and not so grateful. Instead I got her at 10 and have paid thousands in vet bills trying to undo years of abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Dog breeds are nothing but a human construct. People breed dogs to get what people want. Dog breeds change greatly in appearance, health and temperament based on the kinds of people who breed them and what those idiots want. It has nothing to do with what is good for the dog. If people want longer snouts; the breed will get longer snouts but not all dogs of that breed will exhibit the longer snout. If people are breeding for dogs to be mean and vicious then many of the dogs will be mean and vicious but some pups won't exhibit the desired behavior just as many won't get a longer snout. You can't ignore the common breeding practices of mean dog to mean dog and pretend it doesn't effect the breed and the reputation of the breed. Many pit bulls are monsters and it is not their fault. Monsters bred them. If people really cared about dogs, they wouldn't be too concerned about preserving any breed especially a breed that is difficult to adopt. The pit bull should be a relatively rare breed and one that you have to pay big bucks to a top breeder to get. Pit bulls should be so rare that when one does come into a shelter people have to compete to get one. They shouldn't be bred so much. Breeders should be held responsible for the mess and pain (for people and animals) they cause by bringing so many unwanted pit bulls into this world.

I only wish those who abuse/neglect and abandon animals would be prosecuted for their crimes. Perhaps punishment would stop this abuse.

someone ought to b shot for doing a helpless dog like that then leaving the poor thing to die look this is one of those pit-bulls that are so ferocious, GOD BLESS YOUR ORGANIZATION for rescuing dogs like this and showing people that it's not the breed, but. the people that own them: that the pit-bull is a loving dog; not a monster that should be eliminated, like most people think!
