Ten Percent

When I was a young kid going to church with my mom they gave us little envelopes...we would put our offering in it..it wasnt much...but it was the point....be a cheerful giver, that's what God wants and likes...and it doesn't have to be money, your time, your talents, your gift...but it is to be the best of. In all that you do honor God in word and deed...it is the love of money that is wrong....He knows we need it, to use, and to give when ever.....Even the widows mite was appreciated...because she gave out of her heart.

Like most of you, I resonate with comments in each of the posts. The video is lacking, but I am appreciative that it is taking on one issue in the church (and by that, I mean the whole Body of Christ) that still carries intense opinions and passion. Remember, the congregant came to the pastor and asked about dealing with financial issues. A part of responsible stewardship is using the blessings God has give to us to help others and support the proclamation of the Gospel. The video may not have captured all the aspects of effective, biblical stewardship, but it got us talking to one another. That has to be a good thing!

I agree with the other comments. Tithing is act of odeance onto God and not to the church or preacher.I found the video funny, yet lacking.

yes you have a good point. It says to give 10% of our crops to God's storehouse but like you say it shouldn't stop there and it dosn't say a storehouse belongs to a church. Anything that costs money is payment but also our willingness to share e.g. a guest should be given the best of our food. NIV version -You must present as the LORD's portion the best and holiest part of everything given to you. English standard version - Out of all the gifts to you, you shall present every contribution due to the LORD; from each its best part is to be dedicated.’ if jesus was on earth in human form he would give to the poor not take from them when they have nothing. mathew 25:40 The king answered anything you did for even the least of my people here you also did for me.

It's cute, slightly funny - and totally based on manipulation, greed, control and empowering of a "system" of churchianity that is not at ALL what God intended. NOTHING you have is your own. It ALL belongs to God. Don't give 10%, give ALL and see what happens. And give where God leads you - to the poor, to your cousin that needs a place to stay, to a food pantry - DO NOT feel like you owe it to God to help build a new building at the mega-church! It says bring your MEAT to the storehouse, for the distribution to the poor - not your cash. Read the REST of Malachi about what God will do to the greedy, false shepherds that lay burdens on the people for their own benefit.
