I would give a hug to the guy without the mask.

The shame of it is that in order to be hugged, to feel the love or closeness of another....to feel accepted this person like so many others has to put on a mask. In costume he's accepted, unmasked maybe not so much...thanks to those responsible for this video...you broke my heart; I hope this video moves many to learn to love better...

I have worked with the folk for over 11 1/2 yrs. They have filled my life with love. Thank you Lord for such special people.

I am the om to 3 kids with a condition called Fragile x Syndrome. It is kind of like autism. But they are all very friendly. My daughter loves to give hugs and my younger son loves to shake hands and say hello. The positive reactions make me smile. The ones that are negative towards them are the ones that hurt. They have have no idea what they are missing out on. To see life through their eyes really makes me open my eyes more.

Dan Okeefe Sr. - Nothing wrong with tears of joy, or tears to heal, and move on, or any kind of tears! Jimmy is A BLESSING, & I miss him a ton!

My brother in law has something right with him, he 'looks' like the other kids who ride the 'special needs school bus', has alot of the same issues as many of the kids he goes to school with, and inside his chest, he had a rectangular 'lump'... which is actually a small machine that detects & stops seizures! He's been taught to respect other peoples' space, and it goes against his natural instinct to hug people, to reach out and shake hands with folks? It is my personal opinion, since he does not go anywhere without supervision of some sort, that he be allowed to "do his thing"? I have taken him to our neighborhood public swimming pool, the mall, concerts, and I cannot recall how many other events (Carnivals, and so forth). The joy on 9 of 10 peoples' faces after meeting this kid, is awe inspiring! There is that 'odd' person every now and again who gets 'offended' when he puts his arm around them & sometimes with a stutter asks "are u ok" , & I understand the fears that went into the thinking, "WE GOTTA STOP HIM FROM BEING SO FRIENDLY TO TOTAL STRANGERS", I simply disagree with it. His life is so simple, and structured, that getting out around people, is the exception, not the rule. God gave him a gift, and it is a joy to be in, and have him in my life! When my wife and I take him out, even to the local supermarket, there are many people who see us coming, and put there purse in the cart, knowing that whether it be a hello, a hug, or a simple greeting, he is going to do something 'TO MAKE THEIR DAY'! It's perhaps the only time for the widow, the addict, the person who may have had their heat turned off, etc. that they will get a hug, from anyone, until the next time we go shopping! His appearance, and his body language, tell people that he's different, (I say special), but whatever the reason, they know it's ok to hug him! This is a great song, and a great video, and maybe Pittsburgh is simply a 'friendlier' city than most? Yet I often wondwr, when a complete stranger comes up to our little group at a concert,(he loves country music), & somehow through the language of love, asks without speaking, just through eye contact, if they can 'dance' with him, or give him a hug, we often do not have time to answer before Jimmy is locking arms with them and 'Dosie do' with a hug for an exclamation point is said & done, when the next person in line steps up! I can hardly wait to get to Heaven, crawl over his mountain of crowns, and talk to him, the way I talk to 'normal' folks! Thank God for Jimmy, and the Fabians in our lives!

Not sure that this is exclusive to handicapped people. Even watching the video a couple of times, I had no idea he was handicapped until I read below! I mean if I stood out in the middle of a crowd, with my arms open, I am sure no one would hug me. Some might even call the police about some weirdo trying to hug people. Now if I put on the same bear suit, I am sure I would of got the same reaction in this video! So what's wrong with all of us? Why don't we hug eachother more? As a matter of fact for myself, I have been introduced to some people from ukraine, they responded by hugging me and saying hello. I felt so uncomfortable, now that makes me think.. Why? Why are all of us so conditioned by society, to lose touch of our fellow man. To be afraid to get close, as God meant us to... What exemplifies this is the video of the chinese girl, who was run over twice, while everyone walked by and ignored her. I am going to challange myself to try and not be afraid, of shaking hands, hugging, and being close to my fellow man. I challange everyone who reads this, to do the same. Even in spite of the world who scares us, with warnings of disease and sickness, with warnings of how unsafe we are with so much murders, robberies. Ever think if we took time to love our fellow man, how much less there would be of scariness in the world. I understand the point that we should not be afraid of the handicapped, I just wanted to point out that we should not be afraid of everyone else too.. take care and God Bless.
