The Only Difference Between a Good and Bad Day

Cannonball Baptism

I am looking for a church to attend regularly. I wish your church was close to where I live, it sounds like one that I would be happy coming there.

I got this in an email at one time. I may be mistaken, but I think the little boy is the son of the pastor. When he grabbed him by the shirt and said It was the first time that had happened and 25 years and he guarnteed it would be the last, I think he meant after he got home, there would be anolther passage from the Bible used. "Spare the rod and spoil the child".

I was there when this happened. I've known that boy since he was three years old. I can tell you that he is a joyful, god-fearing Christian boy - now young man, who is delightful. In our church, we consider a baptism to be a celebration. They are occasions for cheering, applause and rejoicing. The pastor didn't "take hold of his shirt" as one commenter said; the boy was not corrected for doing something wrong. It's not like he does cannonballs into the baptistry every day. The video does not continue to show his testimony of faith or his actual baptism and blessing by the pastor. If folks think he was being irreverent, then those same folks would probably think our services are irreverent. We rejoice in the Lord and his ordinances and we worship him with our whole hearts - including one young man who did a cannonball into the baptistry.

Exactly Wumi, The Boy IS just being a child. So many are too harsh.

I cannot believe the responses of this video. Wrong or right we should all be happy that there is one less soul going to hell. Geez!

I watched the baptism of this boy three times, and the fourth time, I was able to slow down the video where he first came out. He literally did place himself into a type of a ball and dive out into the baptistry. I suspect that he really did not think that he would make such a "grand entrance" after the fact, as he looked embarrassed afterwards. However, the Pastor had a good sense of humor about it.

So we need to pretend like we don't know that the kid wasn't "excited about entering the kingdom of God"? If he was my kid, he'd be waiting at least another year to be baptized. If you can't figure out that was a prank, not excitement, then there's something wrong with you. I do believe that "discernment" is a spiritual gift, and it doesn't take much discernment to see what's obvious here. Perhaps mercy for complete lack of discernment can be extended to single people, but any parent that doesn't know that wasn't excitement has a real problem.

I know a missionary who baptised a little lady in an African river that was so blessed and excited she could not stop hopping up and down in her joy, he said it took him 3 tries to get her baptised. Give me some of that everyday. Our job is not to judge but rejoice in the work of the Holy Spirit.

Could it be his immaturity as well as the immaturity of his parents and the Pastor or who ever taught him in Believer's Class???

  • 2011-10-29T15:50:17

Hi Tony, thanks for the Add: Do you think the youngster in the video was too young to understand the reasons for Salvation and Batisim?

  • 2011-10-24T23:06:35

I would have liked to have posted this to my wall for all my non Christian friends and family to see, to see that atually church can be fun and relaxed. But thanks to all these comments, Christians arguing with each other, I sll not. Come on, we are not supposed to be fighting each other! And why are some of you so rude to each other? Just who do you think you are allowing to win by causing all this fusas over a young lad's fun! Who cares what the intent was - lighten up!

Love this!

I was baptised in a pentecostal church when I was around this young man's age. Fortunately, about 25 years later I happened upon a DVD titled "true and false conversions" by a man I had never heard of named Ray Comfort and from him, I heard the Gospel for the first time. Hopefully, the same will happen to the young man who is in this video.

Yeah Rose, I think we all need to smile a little more and live as though we are free, rather than bound!!

Elisa Nascimento, I would agree with you IF, i repeat IF, the pastor and church continued to allow that to happen BUT the thing is, we dont know if that is a 'trend' or not cause I, for one, dont go to that church and to assume that the point is being missed is an assumption and a bad one at that. If Jesus is Lord, which I believe He is, with ALL my heart i might add, then that is the foundation and the main point that needs to be kept in mind here. Did Jesus do the same thing twice when he healed people? NO! Was Jesus constantly putting the Pharisee's and Sadducee's in their place because they did not know the HEART of God? YES! To condemn and talk about this boys actions, whether we think they are irreverent or not, goes against what Jesus said in Matthew 19:14, Mark 10:14 and Luke 18:16 and that is to NOT hinder the little children who come to Jesus 'for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs' to such as these' and to see the comments going on and on and on and, well you get the point, about how distasteful and disrespectful and irreverent people may 'think' it is, again goes against what Jesus said. The heart of a child is an amazing thing, i see that in my kids everyday, and as people get older I believe there is a tendency to lose sight of that child like faith and boldness that kids have and it's sad to see, especially when something like this happens cause as you can see, people, in my opinion, and this includes me, are spending WAY too much time talking and arguing about whether or not they THINK this boys actions are reverent or not. SILLINESS if you ask me!! so i am done talking now and am going to finish what i started in the garage and clean up my mess. Elisa, May God Bless you richly and I pray that this conversation will not be one of those that turns people away from the Heart of God and the church. In HIS name!!
