Being honest, offering genuine prayers, getting educated in the Word of God, being willing to obey the Father, desiring Jesus and yieding to the Holy Spirit always do the job. We should never be self-confident but take life as ongoing battles regarding sin and never give up following Jesus. God gives grace and victory, no matter how many more battles and sorrows await us. Having Jesus means having everything good for all eternity.

By keeping away from wrong company, ie, environments or people who can easily lead or influence you the wrong way coz the bible says bad company corrupts good morals. By reading the word of God coz in scripture David says your word oh God have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you. By living in obedience to the holy spirit who teaches us all things.

Amen. It's the life of Christ that is the Gospel. The Holy Bible says, "Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that He(Jesus) appeared so that He might take away our sins. And in Him is no sin. No one who lives in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen Him or known Him." ( I John 3:6). All sins are hell-deserving but some sins carry more serious consequences on earth. "Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices. as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry." (I Samuel 15:22,23). Historic Christians rather died in martyrdom than bowing before the images of idols. Retaining sinful lifestyle is betraying the Lord Jesus in the same way. We must not betray our Lord Jesus under any circumstance.

I believe the key for overcoming sin in the life of a believer is found in many scriptures, one of which is Romans 6:14 "For sin shall not be MASTER (dominion) over you, for you are not UNDER LAW, but UNDER GRACE" Again Romans 3:20b "..for through the LAW comes the knowledge of sin". Again 1 Cor 15:56b "..and the POWER of sin is the LAW". Yes, we can't do it on our own, but totally relying on HIS finished work on the cross.

Practical phenomenon: Those who have given in to losing purity before marriage while being Christian can never find out what victory means or feels in the entire life and therefore even unconsciously become incapable to teach others to do what is right in this regards. Only live warriors with victory experiences can teach how to battle; deserters or casualties can't. For those who gave in while being real Christian, any transgression will always carry excuses and "understandings" thus really help creating an overall immoral society. It's a lifetime serious business.

Practical Advice: Regarding keeping purity before marriage or any form of "actual" sins regarding romantic relationships, one must determined to literally DIE for God's standard. (Hebrews 12:4) For anything serious we don't risk our lives, we always end up transgressing it. For other kinds of sins, full restoration is possible except murder(but what born-again Christian would yield to habitual acts of murder?) but not for this kind. The first-time and one-time act degrades the person completely both spiritually and physically and permanently. Unlike other sins, the willful actual transgressors while being Christian can never claim to be a victor again for all eternity, no matter how transformed they become after repentance. That's why we must risk our lives to teach and instruct young people to risk their very lives not to commit sexual sins in the very first place. For this sin alone, ultimately there is no such thing as a second chance(the cases of pure victimization excluded, of course). Some of our ancestors knew about human nature far better than we do. We are not smarter. Our society just overwhelmingly increased the number of selfish traitors by being immoral, as the Bible says. Traitors are not worth of true love.
