You made the statement that God is not after your submission to His commandments? John 14:15 says "If you love me keep my commandments" it does please God when we keep his commandments.

Mr. Bethke, maybe you're confusing the words "religion" and "ritualism" in our modern day context. I see how this applies to doing things out of ritualism in order to manipulate God to doing something... meaning, if I do X then God will do Y. That's the wrong attitude and definitely not the relationship God sought us for. My question however, points to the book of James that our faith has to be demonstrated by our behavior... otherwise, where is the transformation, the real "new birth"? If we simply emphasize that "religion" is bad and all you need is Jesus, you forget that having Jesus results in a change of lifestyle, ideas, thoughts and many other things... yes, that doesn't mean we now become demi-gods, it means Jesus loved us so much in our filth that we respond by loving Him. But how do we demonstrate that love to God if not through our attitudes and behaviors? Therefore, you have to change certain things, stop doing other things and continue doing other things... right?

I've been struggling in my mind every day every minute...am I doing this right and I doing this wrong....am I living in the light of the Lord. Every day just trying harder and harder...this just put to peace the nonsense of my mind and my thoughts! Amen! Jesus loves me!
