Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus || Spoken Word

Are you people daft? The word "religion" comes from 2 words. RE- meaning "again" and ligo meaning, "to tie/bind". Some idiot (I mean this in the Biblical sense of someone who is ignorant/doesn't know) decided it should mean "to return to bondage". RIDICULOUS! For one thing, they translate the word "RE" to mean "RETURN".... WHAT? NO! RE means "again", so to RETURN is to "turn again", get it? Honestly... The other problem with people dogging on the word "religion" is that some believe that "to bind" means bondage. Again, WHAT? Let's take the word "bound". It's the past tense (bound and gagged) and also has a present tense meaning (I am Heaven-bound or I have a leather-bound Bible). Are we to believe that it's always bad to be bound? IF we're to BIND ourselves AGAIN to Christ every day... shouldn't we be willing to practice that RELIGION? Finally, the word ligio is also the word from which we get "ligament". Am I putting myself in bondage (to something bad) if I take Glucosamine Chondroitin or am I just maintaining the ties that keep my body bound together? How about we start thinking about what words REALLY MEAN before we start putting our pet connotations on them, OK?

To be honest... Jefferson's video really ministered to me and resonated with my heart that Christianity is not about me and my righteousness but it is about what Jesus did on the cross for each of us! It is amazing to me the reaction this video has created worldwide.... In only 4 days this video has had almost 10 Million hits and over 97 Thousand comments. This is truly incrediblel! Maybe instead of criticizing Jefferson we should all be praying that the Lord uses this young man's video to reach individuals all over the world? I believe he presents the heart of God in the following segment and I pray that the Lord uses this video to touch the hearts and minds of many people, not just mine. This would be wonderful! :-) See because religion says do, Jesus says done. Religion says slave, Jesus says son. Religion puts you in bondage, while Jesus sets you free. Religion makes you blind, but Jesus makes you see. And that's why religion and Jesus are two different clans. Religion is man searching for God, Christianity is God searching for man. Which is why salvation is freely mine, and forgiveness is my own. Not based on my merits but Jesus's obedience alone. Because he took the crown of thorns, and the blood dripped down his face. He took what we all deserved, I guess that's why you call it grace. And while being murdered he yelled. "Father forgive them they know not what they do." Because when he was dangling on that cross, he was thinking of you. And he absorbed all of your sin, and buried it in the tomb. Which is why I'm kneeling at the cross, saying come on there's room. So for religion, no I hate it, in fact I literally resent it. Because when Jesus said it is finished, I believe he meant it.

Michael, I agree that this video has the potential to lead people away form the historical Jesus that came to earth to save, and started a Church that gave us the bible and the sacraments. It may lead people into the Outback Steakhouse religion of "No rules, just right".

Thanks for taking a stand and encouraging people like me so keep taking a stand and to show people what it really means to be a Christian. Don't let what people say discourage you. This was a blessing to me and I know God will use it and you if you let Him.

GO ahead BBall, this was great and all truth, there will always be ones out there claiming to have a form of GODliness but denying the power thereof and turn away, and no matter how well you choose your words, someone will always be able to manipulate and turn them around for evil, satan comes to divide, kill, still, and destroy, and JESUS comes to bring unity, all of what you said was truth, so the ones who come against you, they come against the creator, and he is on your side and will deal with those scribes and pharisees in his own way, all we can do is pray for them and maybe they will come to the light one day. when jesus died the temple was cut in half including the curtain the separated G-D and men. this means you no longer need a temple. or church to praise G-D.or to be close to him. because. he lives in u know. no more need for rituals and that crap to go the the farther that religion has in place.

This is exactly why my husband and I attend a non-denominational church. I have been to other churches and they actually stated that Democrats are going to hell or will be left behind in the rapture. First of all, they shouldn't bring politics into their sermon...it turned us off and now we are much happier where we attend. I never felt so FREE! No one can live by the law...all fall short of the glory of God. We are forgiven. And God through His Son Jesus already won! The devil loses. Period! :) Thank you Jesus for your mercy and grace. It IS finished.

Jesus was a Jew, who went to [church]; and I know it wasn't just for "show". He was the un-hypocrite, if you will. He actually regularly attended, and even was involved in, the very church/religion that crucified him. Maybe our problem isn't religion or church; maybe it's that we don't take the time to be like Jesus. I think when we blame "religion" in a blanket sort of way for everything that's wrong with Christianity, etc., we have a problem with pride. Who are any of us to say we have it all together? That was Lucifer's problem in the beginning. To flesh out the analogy a bit, you don't go to a hospital and expect all the sick people there to heal you. You go for the healing you expect to receive from the doctor: Jesus. Granted, there are plenty of false religions out there, but for those who are really seeking to follow Jesus all the way to wholeness, don't be surprised when He eventually leads you to a church family where, in a "support group" of sorts, you can continue to grow closer to Him. Speaking of which, part of growing in Christian experience means that you will seek ways to love and encourage others to walk with Jesus too. Be the answer to the church/religion problems that you see. You/Me/Us are Jesus to those who haven't met Him...

If Jesus hated religion, how do you explain James 1:27? If Jesus came to abolish religion how do you explain Matthew 5:17? If you hate religion, then how can you be a Christian, as to follow Christ is to practice the true religion of Chrisianity? You do as much damage to the cause of Christ as the pharisees. All who practice the religion of Christianity are not false but you paint them as such and in so doing rob them of opportunities to witness for Christ just because they do not fit your mold and yet you say " you ain't judgin? Remove the beam from your eye little brother.

The concept of religion is not bad. It depends on the religion. True and undefined religion is this - the care of widows and orphans. By the way, Jesus' brother James said that. The issue is that there is only one true religion and that is the worship of God through Jesus the Messiah. This religion involves good works, but these works spring from a gratitude that agood has forgiven our sins by the death of his Son, Jesus, and the resurrection of that same Son. For clarification, Jesus was not merely God-centered (if we can even say that), but that he is God in the flesh. And his "in the fleshness" was for the purpose of delivering his people from their sins and the death that followed because of sin.
