Depression is a natural consequence for the sinful mankind living in a fallen world, like natural disasters, wars, diseases, accidents and misunderstandings; there is nothing unnatural about it. It just hits us and we have to live with it for sometime. As long as we have genuine faith in God and continue to what is right, its effects cannot be permanent or mortally destructive. The tunnel of darkness ends at some point, leaving us with renewed hope and renewed understanding of God and life. "John of the Cross" was helpful. He encourages us believers to embrace sufferings with open arms for the sake of Christ. I think that's the whole point. And God really heals in the midst of seemingly impossible sorrows.

If you know your depression is from your own emotions and not from demons or chemicals, please research on those who are starving, persecuted, those who live in streets or garbage dumps, the world's prison conditions, the world history and present world affairs, conditions of N. Korea and Somalia, the number and conditions of human trafficking victims and child laborers, and animal cruelty facts. You'll know how powerful you are and this planet is not a place one can pursue and live for petty personal happiness. Such era is over for adults. If Christians in rich nations get depressions, how can the world's defenseless get rescued? Let's get rest all we want in Heaven, but not in the serious battlefields called Planet Earth. Our depressions cause another destruction and defeat of our comrades and those who need our help. The Biblical authors got depressions because of ongoing injustice on others and from literal physical dangers, not because they could not get what they want. We Christians in free countries can fight back injustice in whatever methods - missions to fulfill until the King returns.

Depression makes us savor the preciousness and joy of life deeper, if properly handled. We learn that good things in life are not random accidents. I congratulate those who deny God and don't get depressed. What a stupid strength! What a lie and meaninglessness one has to deal with in life! Godless selfish happy feeling has it's own pitiful limits. Man needs God.

I'm sorry for your situation, but please start counting your blessings. You do have good things from God that you don't give Him proper credit. A lot of healthy people are in their own sorrows. What Word on depression do you know? The Christian Church helped and rescued the needest of the needy and the poorest of the poor throughout history all over the world. She's been always vitally helpful to all mankind. No one is exempt from infirmity; we are all survivors.

Dwelling in sins, loving lies, believing in self or falsehoods, bad attitudes, purposeless-ness and ingratitude cause depressions, not just demonic forces or chemical inbalance. I believe immorality and ingratitude is the leading cause in well-off nations. Those who are full and have nothing to do should do something to help missionaries and feed the 1 billion hungry people. Reading on the plight of North Korean Christians blows away depressions. One can be thankful for the experience of depression. It makes us common people realize what it means to be in real pain without facing real extreme and dangerous situation.
