Facebook the gift of speaking in tongues for today?-Zach Schlegel

I grew up in pentecostal/charismatic churches most of my life. I still believe that tongues are for today, but I have yet to see them occur in the way explained in the Bible.

I do believe, and I do speak in tongue.

Speaking in tongues has been misused by most pastors by saying that ones ability to speak in tongues means you stand head above others spiritually. There are different gifts and tongues is just one of them. And like is rightly said , unless it could be interpreted, Paul says"shut up in church".

Tell me where in the bible exactly says that....If the Holy Spirit is omnipresent(everywhere)and that the word of god is for all, what is edifying, that you/they are communicating. Tell us all what you are/they are saying give us the encouraging word of the Holy Spirit then, don't keep it under a lamp stand. People misunderstand the gifts, just like the Jewish are still looking for a miraculous physical king & kingdom(JESUS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE). And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words Matthew 6:7.... it works both ways, you talk to God/Jesus in repeating or saying the same things over, justifying the same point w/different words...honestly like a father who wants to hear from his son...when you know better there's something to else to say, say it. Also it say's.....All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them Acts 2:4. Tell me don't you see/read the rest of Acts 2, that the Holy Spirit was acted to start the message to other cities ( "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs--we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" DECLARING THE WONDERS OF GOD " IN OUR OWN TONGUES". Tell me as a resident of Mesopotamia. how are you going to declare the wonders of god by nonsense babbling/or only speaking Galilean. Jesus said...For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.ACTS 1:5-8. The only other time God messed with tongues(SO TO SPEAK) is in Genesis 11 when man wanted to make a name for themselves.(Again to justify more self-righteousness). The Holy Spirit is in you...communicate what is in you, also when you are fighting off Satan..what words does the Holy Spirit pick for you to communicate, I don't know about you but in a language I understand is "edifying". Gifts/talents are simple but faith building...... But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law..., etc..etc..the list is too long we ALL are need to strive for it...but there some people who are exceptional at certain things..... that's their gift... use it..all the more to glorify God. Prophesier.....Only what we are a witness to...what God did in our lives....and anything that does not nullify the word of God...... Nothing Else. The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life. 18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. REV 22:17-18 The Spirit says what I/we understand here why would God make it any different.....please with love can god be divided...Really what are you saying. God told Job...Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this. Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 Does the Holy Spirit answer you/they , back in the same deserve to know the truth ask your leaders in Church. You need to communicate to God in a language like your physical father understood....anything else.....what can you scripturally call it...nullifying, blasphemy? AT THE a father of four, I would say please son tell me what's on your mind, don't cut any corners or make anything up....I love you the same. Be Holy

Some Christians must be genuinely speaking in tongues Biblical way as their life and experiences resemble that are recorded in the New Testament Bible. God is working through those Christians. It's a blessing to receive a gift from God and use it.

speaking in tongues is only to be used in church, if there is a person that is gifted with the gift of interpration of tongues, and it is to be organized. In other words, according to Apostle Paul's teaching only 3 people in a church service are allowed to speak in tongues, 1 at a time, and if there is no interpration then move on to the 2nd person, then the 3rd person and that is it. after the trird person, stop, and move on with the service. I think the way tongue talkers babble like idiots is just a bunch of dumbells trying to promote themselves in pride.(and I also speak and pray in tongues, but I do not at church because there is no inteprator) the scripture that says" when that which is perfect is come: is Jesus, only Jesus is perfect. The gifts of the Holy Spirit is true and in operation today but the charismatic movement has turned it into a joke because of foolish pride and liars and false prophets took over to lead the people into destruction.

Pentecostal/Charismatic Christians constitute perhaps 500 or more million Christians today. For a scholarly treatment of the subject, check out, Dr. Del Tarr's book, "The Foolishness of God". I appreciate my Baptist's friends comments, they are balanced. However, Patrick's comments are out of step with God's gift of tongues. From a personal note, I have spoken in tongues for almost fifty years and am blessed so much by this wonderful gift. I am a PhD candidate in Intercultural Studies.

I thank my God I speak with Tongues more than you all. Gee, can I say that? Yes, as The Spirit's Gift 0f Tongues edifies me. I Seek To Excel for the edification of the Church. And I can Pray that I may interpret. One who prophesies is Greater than. on who speaks with a Tongues UNLESS they Interpret. If one who speakes with Tongues doesn't Seek To Excel to be Edified? How can one edify The Church with The Gift 0f Tongues? It seems to me, those who don't have the gift of Tongues. Always want to play-down those who do. They want us to be quiet unless there is another who can Interpret. But will you allow us time to Pray that we may Interpret? As this would totally mess up the timing of your program-plan. But hey, maybe the Church would be more Edified. by 'blessing with The Spirit' than with the programs! But of course, some well educated scholary-types may get offened. Because their program-plan got ditched. By someone who has the The Spirit's Gift 0f Tongues, instead of a Degree! Which they only have to edify themself and the Church with. -
