So sad she will not be able to know her mother and her mother will not be able to raise her. This is a love beyond words. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends - John 15:13.

Some of these comments are very disturbing. While I respect and feel very touched by the mother's love and courage, I can't understand why everyone's comment seems to value the life of an unborn baby more than that of an established person. Why do you look at babies as being more sacred than adults, and why is self-sacrifice more noble than self-preservation?

What a wonderful gift that mother gave and now we should pray that Dottie Mae serves Jesus and that should He tarry that she lives a life pleasing and honoring to Him. May lives be blessed through her life and may she share the Gospel with those who have never heard it.

No greater love has anyone than that they will lay down their lives for a friend (or baby). The saddest part of this story is that modern medicine convinced the mother that "only chemotherapy would save her from terminal neck cancer." The truth is, she could possibly lived without the chemotherapy if she had known of the successful treatments available that do not use drugs. Wake up people, the doctors take an oath to first do no harm, when Chemo and Radiation does a lot of harm to the body. How could this be God's plan for healing when it destroys the only thing that would help them conqueror the weak cancer cells, which is our immune system! People don't have to die from cancer! It is lack of knowledge that pushes people into believing the powerful drug companies party line. Do your research, find answers, find other solutions before you get cancer, so you don't panic and throw your faith into a system that has basically failed to really cure cancer. Check out Dr. Bruzinski in Texas, Charlotte Gerson's plan, and many other natural approaches to giving your body what it needs to heal itself and removing everything that contributes to cancer. Watch the documentary, Dying to Have known...

This is a catch-22 situation. You go ahead and have the baby, die and then the baby is without its mother. Go ahead and get the chemo while you are pregnant and possibly make the baby sick. Not an easy decision to make.... trusting and believing that all will turn out right in either circumstance.

Mothers are awesome! My mother passed on August 5th of this year and I miss her terrible. Her own mother died when she was only 2 days old of complications with her delivery. It is not quite the same thing but just breaks my heart. She will be reunited with her baby someday in Heaven.

What a brave lady. I, too was faced with a life threatening condition in my 7th pregnancy and chose not to abort but risk my life so my son could have life. Prayer, acceptance and willingness for not your will, but God's will to be done can be hard but it can bring a beautiful peace. Matthew was born at 26 weeks and is now 13. I lost all my blood three times over, had a cardiac arrest and survived. Miracles can happen.
