Though I understand the purpose of leadership, I also understand that Jesus said that leaders in the (Church-the Body of Christ) are not to rule over God's people as the world does. When Jesus spoke about “leaders” he said they should be servants, not acting as gentiles who “lord it over” people.Mat 20:25-27, "But Jesus called the disciples and said, You know that the rulers of the gentiles lord it over them and their superiors act like tyrants over them. THAT'S NOT THE WAY IT SHOULD BE AMONG YOU. Instead, whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. That's the way it is with the Son of Man. He did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many people." Authority in the (Church-body of Christ) is very different to worldly authority. Leaders within the church must, first of all, be servants.Peter likewise when speaking to elders said that (leadership is not to lord over God's people, (1Peter.5:1-4) Note verse 3 "nor as being LORDS over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock". (John the Baptist did not seek the green-light of the religious systems of his day, God was His covering! Take Philip, he went down to Samaria and preached Christ, and there is no evidence that he ask the Apostles for their approval, as a matter of fact the Apostles didn't find out about Philip's preaching endeavor until after revival broke out in Samaria (Acts.8:5-8, 14-15) And while revival was going on in Samaria God sent an angel and spoke to Philip to leave and to go and witness to an Ethiopian (Acts.8:26-40) Afterward Philip was taken by the Spirit somewhere else and was found preaching in Azoutus even unto Caesarea and nowhere in these verses you can show where he sought the Apostles approval to go and preach Christ in any of these cities, he was lead by the Spirit of God, and no man Question him or tried to stop him! And also, what about when the believers experienced persecution and thus was scattered abroad and went everywhere preaching the word (Acts.8:1-4), nowhere will you find in those verses where the believer's waited for the Apostles approval to share Christ in their communities and neighborhoods, (MY FRIEND WE HAVE TO TRUST THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT KNOW HOW TO GIVE WISDOM TO THOSE HE CHOOSES TO USE IN THIS MANNER!). It is clear that the Leadership in the early Church understood their limited leadership role, they understood that it was not for them to be the Holy Ghost in the life of the believers, but to teach them the in-depth riches of Christ's knowledge and His commandments and not to interfere with the Spirit's right to use His children as He saw fit whenever He willed. I was bless to have this kind of leadership in the early part of my ministry. The Lord laid it on my heart to go out in my community and preach Christ. The Man Of God (Brother Odura) was the overseer of the federation of churches of which I was an associate minister and one of the leaders in our federation saw me preaching on a street and went to brother Odura and said, 'that boy is out of control, he's preaching on the streets now, he ask brother Odura, what are you going to do about it? And brother Odura said to him, NOTHING, who am I to withstand God! Brother Odura later came to my house and said great work son, keep it up!
