Yes, of course anyone who compliments someone on their talents by referring to a gift from God, is always doing so with the best of intentions. I just thought it was interesting that his music gives the illusion of being "religious" and I thought it was good for his fans to know the true "Josh Groban".

You are right, it had nothing to do with them being country western stars, but the backlash from radio stations, fans, and Nashville had EVERYTHING to do with the fact that the Dixie Chicks demographic is white / Republican / Christian. That fan base did not like them bringing their political views onto the stage, if only because it was diametrically opposed to their own. But back to Josh Groban--I hardly think people saying that he has "a gift from God" is ever meant to be disrespectful. If anything I think that those that would say such a thing believe his voice to be transcendent, and that is simply the language they use to express that.

I have no idea how people are seeing this comment from my FB? Anyway, I'm not a fan of him either. Never was. Hate his style. Love his quote. I love what the Dixie Chicks did! They stood up for what they believed in! It had nothing to do with being country western...??

Well he just pissed off a significant portion of his demographic. (Not me--not a fan, not his demographic) Whether he feels that way or not, it is unwise for him to be so dismissive of a God that many of his fans believe in. It is sort of similar to the Dixie Chicks slamming GW Bush; did they forget that they were primarily a country western group? I agreed with their sentiment, but I am not a Bible belt Republican, as many many MANY of their fans are.

“When people tell me, ‘God has blessed you with the gift of music’, you’re damn right I get offended. I did not practice hours a day for eighteen years to have my success attributed to a myth.” —Josh Groban.
