Loved that fourth verse, We are starting to see Christians taking a stand, Praying for God to intervene and recently saw it in our Nation.

In the past 20 years, I've led this verse for singing in our church. Sadly, it's been mostly ignored. I wasn't looking for any accolades, just a hint that my church family was alive and awake. I'm afraid the church is largely asleep at the wheel, and this nation will suffer further if we don't wake up! I have no idea what flavor of Christian that veteran is, but I'd rather spend a year of Sundays with him than anywhere!

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. ============================================== However the purpose I was referring to is consistent in all 3, the reference to God, for 300 years, God was listed in every declaration, song, and pledge. Were is God today? Are we "One Nation under God". That is all I was trying to say. I never even knew this fourth verse existed...I wonder why. It seems as if everyone is trying to erase Him out of everything....this song (ALL 4 verses) should be played more often. p.s. I did notice alot more people "like" it now, so all is good. Glory be to God! The bravery of this marine shall not go un-noticed nor his standing in vain. May God bless all who stand in agreement with this marine--- who boldly call on God's Holy Majestic Name! It is the blood that covers us and His love that will lead us through the night with a light from above!

Unlike most of you, I have 6 hours of graduate level Constitutional Law and have actually read and studied the US Constitution. I carry a copy in my purse. We do have separation of church and state. It was carefully written into the Constitution. The fact that a poem written for the War of 1812, that didn't become our national anthem until 1916, has a verse mentioning God is totally irrelevant.

After they sent me propaganda about those people who in the 60s would have been wearing cone shaped hats and burning cross and were white racist who now call themselves the Tea Party. To try to say such people are Christians is an insult to the everything that Jesus stands for."

The complete version of the Star Spangled Banner is included in my church Hymn Book. We sing the complete 4 stanzas on Thanksgiving, Memorial Day and Independence Day.

I don't see what this has to do with anything of a secular nation as the poem was written in 1814, well after the founding, and wasn't standardized as anything official for the nation until 1917. Its a song, and up until the 20th century there were various versions. Get over it, what a bunch of whack jobs.
