There is a significant difference to what most of us are subjected to throughout school, which is random, intermittent comments made by bullies, and what this girl is sharing, which is chronic, relentless cruelty driven to cut so deep that many adolescents and young adults are unable to effectively cope. Many of these victims sink into a pit of depression, others commit suicide, and then there are a few like Jillian who are able to share it in hopes of awakening a broken, ignorant world. We must remember that what we went through as children is no longer the norm. It is a far more violent world with youths whose accessibility to technology makes bullying easier than ever. As a parent I want to protect my child from ever feeling like Jillian or Demi felt. As much as I do not want them to be bullied, I also will not tolerate my children being the bullies. That's where the adult world has failed our younger generations. We are partially to blame for the behavior our children develop. Behavior can be a reflection of culture, or culture can be a reflection of behavior. Jillian: you are a woman with a strength seldom found in one so young; your story is heartbreaking, yet brings hope; your voice is soulful, soothing, and the words resonate your pain, along with your resolve to be yourself; you are an inspiration to those who have similarly suffered and hopefully, an example to those who have or are bullying others. God bless you, girl! You are one of a kind and I, for one, LOVE who you are!
