Bursting out onto the scene with a driving yet melodic style of playing and diverse neo-classical sound, Chronicles makes their debut with their new album, Generation. Bringing together the ideals and beliefs of the band and its members, the new album brings together a message of what Chronicles believes is what todayâs generation is called for. Beginning with the albumâs title track, the record starts out by getting the listenerâs attention musically. Step one: catchy Keyboard Lead intro. Step two: message-driven verse with a strong but melodic chorus. Step three: let the music do the talking. Every track on the album remains consistent with the undeniable message of the album as a whole: to stand up for what you believe and to never give up. Emblematic of this message, âStand Upâ, the next track on the record, hooks the listener in with a catchy bass-line intro. With a slightly different feel than the title track, the contrast between both songs shows the outspoken diversity of the groupsâ music. But even with the first two songs of the record being edgy guitar-driven songs, the record also includes a more sensitive and harmonic side of music as well as the message. With songs such as âI Surrender,â and âHe Will Be There,â we can see another side of the music. âThere will always be things that we deal with in life that there may be no outlet for. For me, Music is my outlet. In the song, my main goal is to tell people that there is always someone who cares for them, no matter what youâre going throughâ , so says Matt Biel, a Guitarist and Songwriter for Chronicles. Through this positive message, the band hopes to inspire their listeners to believe in themselves as well as their cause and to remember that they represent what they believe. As we go further into the album, we encounter tracks such as âI Come to You,â an edgy driving yet melodic song with a strong chorus. We also encounter âRise Up,â another song emblematic of the albumâs message. One of the more aggressive songs on the record, the band shows the potency of the message through the emotions of their music. The lyrics of the song describe a generation divided by barriers: Language, race, sex, religion. The song tells us to rise up past these barriers for something greater, united by this cause. Finally, in the same fashion that the album started, the ending will leave the listener with a final view of the albumâs message as well as Chronicles Itself. âVictory,â brings together the beliefs, musical style, as well as attitude of the band in a fusion of emotion and music that will give the listener something to think about long after they stop listening to the album. And after all of the emotion and music, the record ends with an instrumental bridge that will drive your stereo through the wall.
Chronicles was founded in 2003 by their drummer, Carlo Allanigue. Hailing from the Philippines, with 10 years of live production, he came to Las Vegas with the vision of Chronicles. It was here in Las Vegas that his vision became a reality. Playing out of the Lord of Harvest Worship Center here in Las Vegas, Chronicles soon became a popular name among the local music movements of the city. It was here that the band came together. Marva Allanigue, Daughter of the senior pastor of the Lord of Harvest church, and wife of Carlo Allanigue, would become an integral part of what Chronicles would be founded upon. Aside from being a guitarist/vocalist within the band, she is also the graphic designer, ranging from the bandâs album covers and formats to the bandâs photography. EJ Allanigue, Chroniclesâ Bassist, as well as Carloâs brother, was also brought onto the project at an early age, bringing with him his many musical influences. EJ would also become a key factor in building Chronicles foundation, band-wise as well as musically. As the foundation began to solidify, Matt Biel, Hailing from Anaheim California, Guitarist/vocalist for the band, later joined the group, inspired by the message they carried as well as the music they played. Coming from a deep musical background, Matt joined the group in the hopes that the music they would make would have meaning and, like any other musician, help change the world. Of the few years that the band has been together, they have already toured all over the west coast as well as many local venues in their hometown of Las Vegas. Diversity has become an important factor in what the band has been known for, not just in ethnicity, but musically as well. This diverse blend of experience and talent at an early stage of the bandâs development gives them the edge and potential they need to reach the top, and at the same time, be a blessing to any community they might encounter. Driven by their love for music, and their deep and undeniable devotion to God, Chronicles has become the powerful and influential musical movement it is today.
