Hi there everyone. I'm an Irish/American Catholic. I served as a Youth Minister for junior high/high school youth group at our church for 3 years. I am currently a Chaplain. And also a Religious Brother with the Grey Robed Monks of St. Benedict. I took my first set of temporary vows on July 11th on the Feast Day of St. Benedict the founder of Western Monasticism.
The Grey Robed Monks of St. Benedict is an ecumenical order following the Rule of St. Benedict. The Order is established as a monastery-without-walls in that our community members engage in secular work, most have families and live in their own home. Our order is made up of Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists and Orthodox Christians.
As Benedict discovered, each community has a life and character of its own. However, our goal is the same as prescribed in the Rule of Benedict; to seek God. Thus, our Order blends the rich, yet diverse, Christian traditions to form a unique approach to monastic spirituality. We are deeply committed to social justice, and embrace everyone with the love of Christ as commanded by the rule.
As indicated by our Charter, the order is open to men and women who seek a closer relationship with God. As a community we gather for common prayer, lectio divina, study of the Rule of Benedict, and discussion of various religious topics. We also engage in works of service to our worship communities and the secular community as well
