Our story unfolding...

On November 14, 2004 just six weeks after we moved to the country and three days after the birth of our fourth child, Alex(our oldest son) and Kevin(my husband) were in, what should have been a fatal car accident. Alex was then 6 ½ years old. I (Beth) was at home with the other three kids(Aaron 4, Grace 2, and Ryan 3 days) when I received a phone call from Kevin that he and Alex had been in a serious accident and that he did not know if Alex was alive or dead. God had everything planned out and the journey had begun. Alex was medflighted to Children's in Columbus, and Kevin went to get checked out at a local hospital. Kevin had been thrown out the passenger side of the two-door Honda Civic, over the gear shift, landed on his shoulders, and some how just had some sore spots and a big bruise on his hip. Later, Alex would tell us that the angels had taken care of Daddy. I packed myself and the other three kids into the van and drove the hour to Columbus. As I was driving I received a phone call from the e.r. asking if Alex was allergic to any medicines. I asked them if he was still alive. All the person could tell me was that Alex was very serious. We all arrived at the hospital. God had someone planted at the hospital to speak prophetically to me that Alex was healed and so it began. When we arrived at the hospital there were already several other people there to minister to us. We were told that Alex was so severely injured that they gave him a 0% chance that he would function at all mentally or physically. Alex's spinal cord had been severely cut at the c1-c2 level and he had sustained a very severe brain injury at the brain stem. Well, God kept gathering His people and as Alex kept surviving, more and more were puzzled as to what should be done with this little guy.Alex was in PICU for seven weeks in a coma before they decided to transfer him to the rehab floor. Since Alex was still in a coma they just planned to teach us how to care for him "as is" while encouraging us to send him to a nursing home...no way!!! As negativity kept being thrown at us God kept supplying His people to sustain us. There was a website set up from early on, nonstop prayers from around the world, and 24 hour sitting with Alex. If someone could not physically sit with Alex during their scheduled time, they set their alarms and prayed from home. I will move ahead. Alex started to wake up from the day that he arrived on the rehab floor. He came home on February 15, 2005.The next 6 months were spent going back and forth to the hospital with one infection after another. In August of 2005 God said Alex would not go back to the hospital. We started off with therapists and nurses here all the time (or it seemed like all the time) to now no nurses, and only one physical therapist that also believes with us that Alex will indeed walk and fully recover! The past three years have been filled with many challenges and triumphs. Please visit the site if you have not already prayforalex.com Through all this, God has been transforming lives. Not only our lives but the lives of those around us. We know that God only allows that in which He plans to use for His purposes. We know that this situation is being used to draw many to new levels with God. We look forward to being able to continue learning and growing. We love having visitors especially since we are a little more limited in our ability to get out. The weather and equipment issues limit our outings the most. We are so thankful for the rich blessings that God has and continues to provide us with. All the kids are very creative and love learning we homeschool. Alex continues to progress. Talking and eating are two things that were supposed to be impossible but are two of Alexs favorite activities. He stands in a special frame every day and has amazing stories to share about God, angels, and Heaven.I say he is a normal ten-year-old trapped in a body that currently does not function like it did before the accident but it will! God is not bound by space and time so we try to just follow along on this very interesting journey. To be continued........
