Heart after God?

Heart after God?

We all know that the Bible says that David had a heart after God and some even criticize that how can he have had that kind of heart with his past?
The most notable sin many give account to David is the Bathsheba incident (II.Sam.11:3). The story goes that he lusted after her while she bathed outside her living quarters. So David coveted and lusted after a married woman and not only that; he took advantage of his God given authority and sent her husband into the front lines to be killed so that she may be free from her marital bond. Before the eyes of all it was not a sin that her husband died and he took her to be his(II Sam.11:27), but before God all things are seen (Jeremiah 32:19/ Prov.16:2).
There are other things that David did before the eyes of God that were wrong, but before men they were unseen. David lost his first born because of his sin with Bathsheba. He did have his reward for his wrong doings(II. Sam.12:9-12).
We all understand the sinful nature of this flesh because we battle it often. we all have experienced the fire that takes us into places that we later regret. Many of us have done worse than David and yet we long for God? We have sinned over and over and yet we still have this deep longing to be free and to know Him.
How can we measure the length of His forgiveness? How can we limit His arms of redeeming grace? Do we have a limit on forgiveness?
God sees beyond our faults and sees the true intentions of the heart. David did have a heart after God. His desire was to love God above all things, but he did have his times of failures.
There is one thing that David did not have. He did not have the infilling of the promise of the Holy Spirit to guide, empower, teach, comfort, etc.... and yet he was a man after God. There is a glimpse in Davids words that leads us to believe that David new of that blessed outpouring in psalms 32:2. In the old testament it was impossible to say that the Lord did not visit His peoples iniquities, but he said it because of the blessed future that God has given us through Jesus Christ our savior was reveled to him through the spirit of God.
With man many things are impossible, but with God all things are possible. God is not sidetracked by our short comings, but as our heart remains in a state of longing He makes a way of escape and gives us His Holy Spirit to put this flesh to death.
Romans 8:13 "For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live." So by fellowship with God through the Holy Spirit are we able to overcome and live a life that is pleasing before God.
So if you have a heart after God, but are struggling with iniquities that take you back and discourage you; know that God is aware and sees your hearts true intentions.
Pray the Holy Spirit to help you in all aspects. Learn of the person of the Holy Spirit and know that Jesus sent Him to teach, empower, bring to remembrance, comfort, convict, lead, and to help you walk in the liberty that was purchased on the cross for you.
You have a heart after God? then it's time to give it over to God in all aspects of life. It's time to have God interwoven in the fabric of our lives.
there is a saying that I heard once, "if He's not Lord of all then He's not Lord at all".

May God richly bless you and I hope that I have stirred some desire to know the person of The Holy Spirit and His need in your life. AMEN!!!
In His service,
Pastor B.
