Feed the orphans and widows

In this week's portion we read these powerful words:
For the LORD your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God who does not show partiality nor take a bribe. He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows his love for the alien by giving him food and clothing. So show your love for the alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt. (Deut. 10:17-19)
What I was especially struck with this week was the connection between these lofty words extolling God's might (which appear in the first benediction of the Amidah prayer) and his care for the lowly in this world. Though God is awesome, he is perfectly humble and compassionate. In though he is "high and lifted up," his eyes are always upon the poor.
It is well known that the American economy has fallen on hard times. With the mortgage crisis, health care problems, the soaring cost of fuel, food, and medication, it seems that... Read More »

| About Me: | The Father of Lights, YHVH! He has blessed me! Its been a long road, Now that Ive climbed the Mountain I can see all around me. Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trial of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. Over two and half years ago I had a few set backs in my life. I was injured at work and then was laid off shortly there after. I then came down with Chronic Fatigue syndrome around nine months later. I was in such as state of disparity that I feel into a deep depression. Which was more than my wife and I could handle. Yeshua said, that it counts as nothing if you love when it is easy, but when you show love to those that are not so easy to love, this is when it counts. Love isnt an emotion or something you fall into and crawl out of, it is a decision, a verb, an action we choose to do. It is a commandment. Happiness doesnt depend on one's circumstance. It comes from a correct relationship with G-d, being Kingdom Minded and not embracing the worlds solutions. Our joy comes from the Lord our G-d! My joy must come from the Lord now. I want what life I can have in Messiah as the author and finisher of our faith. This should be evidenced in our personal walk. I can do all things in Messiah who strengthens me. This must be my mantra. I must be willing to give it all up so the Lord can bless me with whatever He chooses to bless me with. I feel I am sharing with Messiah in suffering not to the agree He suffered of course, but still I share in rejection and suffering. Gal. 2:20 says, I have been crucified with Messiah nevertheless I live, yet not I but the Messiah lives in me and the life that I now live, I live by the faith of the son of G-d who loves me and gave his self for me. |
