Betty Jonah Orphanage
Camp 4/Yekepa
Nimba County
Liberia, West Africa
The Betty Jonah Orphanage opened in January 2004 in Camp 4/Yekepa, Nimba County, Liberia by Pastor and Mrs. Anthony Jonah. Rev. Jonah is the Pastor of Redeemer Baptist Church, located next door to the Orphanage. Presently there are 47 children living in the Orphanage, ranging in ages from 2 to 17. Pastor Emmanuel Jonah, son of Pastor and Mrs. Jonah, is also the Liberia Director of Liberia Christian Ministries International. He is responsibile for purchasing and transporting supplies from the capital city of Monrovia out to the Orphanage in Nimba County. This is a difficult task because of the extremely bad road conditions. Most of the children in the Orphanage came from nearby villages. They have either lost one or both of their parents in the Liberian Civil War or due to the extremely difficult living conditions in Liberia. Some of them have parents who simply cannot afford to feed them.
Pastor and Mrs. Jonah have a strong desire to not only provide shelter, physical nourishment and education for these children, but also to provide them with Spiritual guidance, living a life exemplified by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Liberia Christian Ministries International was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in May of 2005. After a mission team from Shiloh Baptist Church in Monroe, N.C. saw the unmet needs of the Children of the Betty Jonah Orphanage first hand. We came home with a burden to make a difference in their lives. Since its inception, LCMI has provided food, clothing and basic needs for the Children of the Betty Jonah Orphanage through the child sponsorship program. We have also begun a teacher sponsorship program to help provide much needed education for these orphan children along with needy children of the community. Other ministry efforts have also begun, including; building a new orphanage building, construction of a new LCMI church building in Monrovia, Agriculture ministry, and a college Scholarship program.
Future plans include adult literacy training, vocational education, Church planting in rural villages, and expansion of the LCMI school program.
All of these projects must have funding to exist; we believe God will provide those people who will partner with us to make a difference in the lives of many people in Liberia. Would you consider how you can be a part of this endeavor?
